LA County Electronic Monitoring Program

A JAIL ALTERNATIVE PROGRAM

Regarding COVID-19: The LA County Electronic Monitoring program is operating as normal with prudent precautions to prevent the spread of the virus.  All visitors to the office is required to wear a mask and practice social distancing where possible.

The Electronic Monitoring Program is available to the Superior Court of Los Angeles County as an alternative to custody in accordance with California Penal Code 1203.016. 

Authorized by the Board of Supervisors, the Probation Department contracts with a private company to provide electronic monitoring services (About Us), as part of Los Angeles County’s Community Based Alternatives to Custody. 

Post-sentenced Los Angeles County adults in custody (inmates):

  • Are screened for possible participation by the Sheriff's department

  • If eligible, may request application to the program themselves  

Defendants can be referred to the program by the Court:

  • Misdemeanor charges

  • Felony charges

  • Prior to conviction (pretrial release)

  • After conviction as a sentencing option

NOTE:  This site is not an official site for the Los Angeles County Probation.

under a contract with Los Angeles Probation.

For Participants

If you are facing incarceration prior to your court appearance (pretrial) or facing a jail sentence or if you are already in jail, you may be eligible for the Adult Electronic Monitoring Program.  You may be able to serve your sentence at home while attending work or school and fulfill child care responsibilities.

For Judges

When the case in front of you calls for home detention as sentencing or as pretrial, Los Angeles County Probation's Electronic Monitoring Program is your source for EM services.

Probation's Pretrial Services Bureau will screen the participants and provide risk assessments.  Probation has contracted with a private contractor for the purposes of providing comprehensive full case management  and electronic monitoring services.

 

For Attorneys

Los Angeles County Probation Department's Electronic  Monitoring Program offers your client the opportunity to complete pretrial or a jail sentence on Electronic Monitoring.  In this environment participants may work, attend counseling sessions, educational or vocational training classes, or seek medical and dental assistance while serving their sentence.
